Freshman Application

You’ve done your research, explored your options, and know that Illinois State is the perfect place for you. Now it’s time to apply.

  • Before You Start
  • Deadlines
  • Admissions Requirements
  • Application Fee/Waiver

Illinois State's self-report application means you don't need to submit your official high school transcript to receive an admission decision.

Here's what you should have ready:

  • Unofficial high school transcript, so you can tell us your GPA and courses you've completed.
  • Your ACT or SAT scores and subscores.
  • Decide if writing an optional personal statement is right for you.
  • Your Social Security Number (if you have one).
  • Choose your major or program. Haven't decided yet? Apply as "Undeclared."
  • Be ready to save your new Illinois State username (we call this a "ULID") and password. You'll need that to check your application status and do other tasks.

Illinois State's preferred filing period for freshman students for the fall semester is September 1–November 15. Applying early is encouraged, as the University must limit enrollment in specific majors/programs.

For best consideration for scholarships and to receive your admission decision by December 31, complete your application during the preferred filing period.
