Student Fitness Center and McCormick Hall

Our new Student Fitness Center and McCormick Hall opened in January 2011. The complex is more 170,000 square feet of workout and classroom space. Students, who can access the facility free with their Redbird ID cards, enjoy features such as:

  • a 47-foot high climbing wall
  • 22,000 sq. ft. of cardio and strength training equipment
  • a mixed-use pool with four lanes for lap swimming plus a leisure area
  • three multi-purpose sport courts, one with a dasherboard system for indoor soccer or floor hockey
  • a three lane, 1/8 mile indoor track, a large part of which is suspended over University Street
  • four group fitness studios featuring classes including Zumba, Pilates, and many more

Campus Recreation

In addition to operating the Student Fitness Center and McCormick Hall, Campus Recreation offers a variety of recreational and exercise opportunities to match any interests. Sports clubs and intramurals provide varying levels of competition in traditional sports such as flag football, basketball, or volleyball or more unique recreational options like kickball or dodgeball. Campus Recreation's Outdoor Adventure Center provides outdoor equipment rental, adventure trips, and a challenge course available for group team building.

Health and Wellness Programs

Health Promotion and Wellness at Illinois State educates students about healthy lifestyles and empowers them to work toward a healthy mind, body, and spirit.

Doctors and Nurses

No one likes to get sick, especially when Mom's chicken soup is a couple of hours away. Our Student Health Services' medical clinic provides quality, convenient, low-cost primary health care for students. All students who register for one or more hours and pay the Health Fee are eligible to use all the services of the on-campus clinic. You can see a board certified physician, physician assistant, or advanced practice nurse for things you would normally see your family physician for, such as:

  • examinations
  • treatment
  • urgent care
  • x-ray
  • lab services
  • minor surgical procedures

Pharmacy Services

Our on-site pharmacy is staffed by registered pharmacists and technicians. The pharmacy will fill prescriptions from any licensed physician or dentist if the medication is on the Pharmacy Drug Formulary. The pharmacy provides those medications most frequently required by students. Prescription and over-the-counter items are sold at a reduced cost to students. Most prescription insurance cards are accepted.

Student Health Insurance

All undergraduate and graduate students automatically receive student health insurance from the University. If you already have health insurance, Student Health Insurance coordinates with your family coverage, so most medical expenses would be 100% covered. The University plan would cover deductibles, co-insurance, and anything else otherwise unpaid by your other insurance.

Student Counseling Services

Student Counseling Services assists students with personal, academic, and career-related concerns by providing counseling, outreach, and other services. Student Counseling Services offers a variety of confidential, no-fee services including:

  • Individual and group counseling
  • Psychiatric services
  • Crisis intervention
  • Career counseling
  • Online self-help resources

Student Access and Accommodation

Student Access and Accommodation Services assists students with disabilities or medical conditions who may need accommodations to fully participate on campus. These accommodations may include special parking designations, housing arrangements, and/or dietary needs.
