Federal regulations require you must prove you have financial resources to pay for your first year of study at Illinois State. Your Declaration of Finances are demonstrated by showing an electronic bank statement or letter dated within one year prior to the date classes begin. This documentation is not required when you apply for admission, but we will need it to process your I-20 and acceptance packet.
You must submit either the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) from a test you’ve taken within the past two years. Also, you are not required to submit ACT or SAT scores, however, these scores may make you eligible for scholarships at the University.
We require the following minimum scores:
Scanned test scores may be emailed for an admissions decision. If accepted, your official test scores must be sent to Illinois State directly from the TOEFL or IELTS website or confirmed official by the Office of Admissions.
Alternatively, international transfer students may have the English proficiency exam requirement waived if they’ve earned 60 semester hours at college or university located in the U.S. and have been residing in the U.S. for at least one year at the time of admission.
If you are from a native English speaking country, you are not required to submit ACT or SAT scores, however, these scores may make you eligible for scholarships at the University.
International undergraduate applicants who meet all other academic standards for admission but whose TOEFL or IELTS scores do not meet the minimum requirements may be admitted to a degree program on the condition that they attend courses at the English Language Institute (ELI) at your own expense. Before starting their degree program, you must improve your English proficiency to the level required to be successful.
Please send an electronic copy of your passport to ensure that we have the correct spelling of your name.
Those documents requested unofficially can be emailed directly to Admissions@IllinoisState.edu.
