Apply for Financial Aid & Scholarships

Your academic profile, your family's finances, and many other factors determine the scholarships and financial aid for which you qualify.

Apply for financial aid

To apply for financial aid, submit your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online. The Illinois State University school code is 001692. Our preferential filing date is March 1. If you apply by this deadline, you will receive your award notice in early April. You can check your financial aid status online in Welcome2isu or once you have registered for courses using My.IllinoisState.edu.

The Financial Aid Office will assist you if you have questions about your FAFSA, the financial aid process, or your award.

Check out scholarships

Our Scholarship Resource Office posts scholarship information and application deadlines. Also, many departments, programs, and schools at Illinois State have limited scholarship or tuition waiver funds. Visit your intended program’s Web site to
learn more.

If you are transferring from a community college earning your Associate of Art or Science degree with a 3.5 GPA or greater, you may qualify for the Community College Transfer Scholarship.

Expenses for 2012-2013

The estimates below are calculated based on a student who takes 15 credit hours each semester, lives on campus with a roommate, and selects the seven-day unlimited meal plan. Books, supplies, transportation, clothing, recreation, and other expenses are not paid directly to the University, but should be considered as you are budgeting.

Tuition and fees* $13,009
Room and board $9,624
Total $22,633

* For most students, tuition rates remain the same for four years. Tuition and fees for out-of-state students are $20,450. However, students from neighboring states (Iowa, Indiana, Wisconsin, Michigan, Missouri, Kentucky) and some academically talented students (as determined by the University) are eligible for a rate of tuition equal to students who live in Illinois, a savings of $8,000 per year.
