Maintaining a safe, secure campus is a top priority at Illinois State. That's why the University is served 24/7 by a campus professional police force of 23 full-time officers and has back-up agreements with the Normal and Bloomington police departments.
Emergency alerts are sent to students, faculty, and staff via email, phone, and text message when a crisis situation occurs on campus. These alerts are also posted on the University homepage. An emergency paging system is built into all occupied buildings on campus. Residence halls are also equipped with public address systems.

- Each year, the University publishes the Annual Security Report in compliance with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act). The Clery Act is a federal law that requires colleges and universities to disclose certain timely and annual information about crime and security policies. The Illinois State University Police Department, in collaboration with a number of university departments and agencies, prepare, compile, and distribute this information.
